Mr. Sages has been a member of the firm since 1995, having joined the firm as an associate in 1985. He practices primarily in civil litigation with emphasis on the defense of general liability, commercial premises, automobile, and products liability claims. A substantial portion of his practice involves defending national retail companies from various types of claims, including: premises liability, products liability, and malicious prosecution. He serves as trial counsel for insured and self-insured clients. He also has been designated by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney.

 

Mr. Sages was selected as a 2010 New Jersey Super Lawyer, which was published in the April 2010 issue of New Jersey Monthly and New Jersey Super Lawyers Magazine. He had also been selected as a New Jersey Super Lawyer from 2006-2009.

 

He is a frequent lecturer to major clients on areas including: uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, premises liability, loss prevention, malicious prosecution, and the prevention of lawsuits against commercial property owners and retail establishments.

 

In 1984-1985, he served a judicial Clerkship to the Honorable Rosemary Higgins Cass, the Honorable Peter B. Cooper, the Honorable Edmond Kirby, and the Honorable Kenneth B. Stein, Essex County Superior Court, Newark, NJ. He graduated from Fordham University School of Law, New York, New York, J.D. (1984), after receiving a B.A. in History/Political Science from Columbia University, New York, New York (1981).

Thomas Madden has been a member of the firm since January 1, 2004, having joined the firm as an associate in 1991. Mr. Madden's practice areas remain primarily in civil litigation, with emphasis on negligence defense, construction defect defense, design professional defense, products liability, and environmental litigation. He is engaged as trial counsel for municipal and superior court criminal defense litigation.

 

From 1987 to 1988, Mr. Madden served a Judicial Clerkship to the Honorable Charles J. Harrington, Jr., Hudson County Superior Court, Jersey City, New Jersey. He then served as Assistant Prosecutor in the office of the Hudson County Prosecutor, Jersey City, New Jersey (1988-1991).

Mr. Alencewicz has been a member of the firm since 2001, having joined the firm as an associate in 1988. He is engaged primarily in litigation involving the defense of products liability, environmental, tax tort, asbestos, personal injury, and general liability matters. He is also engaged as trial counsel in defense of construction contractors and architect and engineers, environmental claims, including land fill activities, pollution, ground water contamination claims, and related coverage disputes.

 

Mr. Alencewicz has extensive experience in defending claims of defective or dangerous products including representation of national and international manufacturers and distributors of all types of products such as consumer appliances and electronics, industrial machinery, and chemical and asbestos-containing products including boilers, and pumps. He has defended hundreds of cases and has an excellent reputation for applying innovative approaches to resolving these matters while maintaining the integrity and reputation of his clients.

 

From 1984 to 1988 he was a member of the firm Alencewicz & Kenny, Morristown, New Jersey, engaged in general and litigation practice. Previously, he served as a Student Attorney with the Legal Aide Society of Morris County, Morristown, New Jersey (1983).

 

Mr. Alencewicz is a graduate of Vermont Law School, South Royalton, Vermont, J.D., Cum Laude (1984). He also has a B.A. degree (History) from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania (1981).

Mr. Merklinger has been a member of the firm since 1976 and was appointed President and Managing Partner in 1996. He is engaged primarily in civil litigation with emphasis on personal injury and commercial matters at both the trial and appellate level. His special focus includes product liability, toxic torts, premises liability, serious injury and insurance coverage.

 

Mr. Merklinger was appointed National and Regional Coordinating Counsel for the management of tort litigation for a number of major, multi-national corporations. He coordinates all aspects of assignment, management, and budgeting of litigation with Risk Management, Third Party Administrators and Local Counsel.

 

Mr. Merklinger is a frequent lecturer to client groups on topics such as: litigation management, billing and budgeting practices, pre-trial discovery, and alternate dispute resolution. He has been recognized by the NJ Supreme Court as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney, and served as a member of the Ethics Committee, District VB. he was certified as a Mediator by the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education.

 

In 1969, after graduating from Villanova University, Villanova, Pennsylvania, with a B.A. (Sociology/Marketing), Mr. Merklinger served for three years as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He received his law degree in 1975 from Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, New Jersey. He worked as a graduate assistant/scholarship recipient, coordinating the Appellate Moot Court Program. He served a Judicial Clerkship (1975-1976) to the Honorable John D. Collins, J.S.C., Morris County Superior Court, Morristown, New Jersey.

Mr. McKenna has been a member of the firm since 1991. His areas of practice include foreclosure and bankruptcy counsel to banking clients in New Jersey and on a national level, commercial and residential real estate, lender representation in connection with mortgage reviews and title insurance litigation. In addition, Mr. McKenna is involved in drafting wills and trusts, estate administration and corporate transactional matters.

 

From 1976 to 1990, he was a partner of the law firm Booth, Kenny, Dougherty, & McKenna, where he gained extensive experience with respect to title work and real estate closings, handling over 10,000 foreclosures of residential and commercial mortgages. His career includes considerable practice before the United States Bankruptcy Court in connection with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petitions as they affect mortgage foreclosures.

 

Mr. McKenna serviced in the Adjudication Department of the Veterans' Administration, New Jersey, from 1974 to 1976, reviewing Federal regulations and Statutes and determining eligibility for education, pension, and compensation benefits. He participated in administrative law hearings and drafting of opinions on various questions concerning Veterans' Administration rules and regulations.

 

Mr. McKenna is a graduate of Rutgers School of Law, J.D. (1973); and Seton Hall University, B.A. (History/English, 1970).

Ms. Etwaroo joined the firm as an associate in 2014. In 2013-2014, Ms. Etwaroo served a Judicial Clerkship to the Honorable Mary K. Costello, P.J. Cv., Hudson County Superior Court, Jersey City, NJ. Ms. Etwaroo also worked for the Hudson County Child Support Enforcement Unit from 2008-2013.

 

She graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, NJ (2013), after graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science, from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ (2009).
